Changing the Cycle of Anger
A Model for Treating Anger Control Problems in Adults
Anger is an emotional state that ranges from mild irritation to seemingly uncontrollabe rage, and can be a response to events that are interpreted through distorted perceptions and unrealistic expectations. In addition, anger expression patterns are influenced by a person's childhood experiences as well as one's temperament and personality.
Anger is considered to be a part of our human experience whether at home, in the workplace, on the highway or other daily activities and impacts our interactions with spouses/partners, children, coworkers, friends and strangers. Given the level and frequency of anger encountered in our culture, there is a need to have anger problems considered a center of attention for therapeutic intervention.
This seminar will present a model of treatement of anger control problems that offers a cognitive-behavioral perspective. It will also consider the therapist's countertransference reactions to individuals who ahev anger control difficulties.
